To fulfill my responsibility as a Malaysian and to discover alil more about Frankfurt (since I am there anyway, so why not). I was once in Frankfurt airport, the first time I step in to Germany (and to Europe) but didn't step out to see the city.
I overheard from a friend that it would cost about 100 euros to-and-fro Frankfurt. Natürlich I had to look for a cheaper alternative to get myself there and I managed to.
The feeling of roaming around a foreign city alone on foot is rather thrilling. Getting lost (as expected) was pretty interesting too. During this journey, there was a mixed of good and bad. Just gonna sum up my experience in numbers :P
- Left my scarf and it was really windy in Nürnberg at 5.45am. Checked the weather forecast earlier, apparently Frankfurt is colder. #ohshite
- At Wurzberg station to exchange train from platform 6 to 7A - All the passengers boarded the train when it arrive. BUT it was heading to Nürnberg (no one realise). Gott Sei Dank, the conductor was asking us where are we heading to and pointed out that the train is heading to Nürnberg, not Frankfurt. The signage at the platform clearly shows the train heads to Frankfurt! #Lesson learnt : Look at the signage for the train's direction on the train to be sure.
- Sat near a couple who argued every 30 minutes. "I WANT TO SLEEP! CANT YOU ARGUE AT HOME? GAH!"
- Went to the Malaysian Consulate and casted my vote. Probably the forth or fifth to vote. No ink stain on my finger. Yay!
- Met a Malaysian on the way to the Tourist Information office who's studying Masters in Berlin :)
- Miss the 10.30am Frankfurt tour bus, next one was scheduled at 2.30pm. (PS: My bus leaves at 3pm.)
- Walking randomly towards and around the Altstadt where all the tourist-y thingi are located. Was being very cautious by checking my current position every 20 minutes and then mark it on the map. My sense of direction is really bad, so it was necessary.
- My favourite spot of the Frankfurt : The River!! So calming and beautiful. Too bad Mr J wasn't there or else I would want to go on the boat ride.
- After getting
maybe too muchintoxication from the beauty of the river, I decided to not look at the map anymore. Just recognize landmarks/ buildings and head towards the train st. BAD DECISION! I lost my way and realised it because I saw the same building again and again. - Asked for direction in Deutsch. 1 Uncle proudly replied, "I speak English!!" LoL. Probably he couldn't stand my bad German , haha.
- Back at the Consulate to meet up with friends for lunch. Was so glad I made the right decision to vote in the morning. At 1pm, there were about 50 people queue-ing up to vote. Crazeee!
- Lunch at Jade - Magic Wok (Malaysian restaurant). Menu was rather disappointing - no typical Malaysian food. Nevertheless it was yummy.
- 4 hours home on a bus is not fun especially when you need the washroom BADLY. Luckily there was Wifi to keep my mind off.
- I couldn't feel my feet when I arrive home.
- Knock out at 9pm.
