How do you greet a person you just met ?

"Wie geht's?" and followed by "Wie heißen Sie? "

Today , I was greeted by , 

"Woher kommen Sie?" and the 'conversation' kinda stopped there. 

I was tad confused by that because I do not know him and he doesn't know me.  

"Where am I from " is the latest way upon greeting someone new?
Next time I am going to reply ,

" Aus Saturn " because Saturn is my favourite planet. No, of course I wouldn't.

I know you are all curious and wandered if you guessed my Heimatland correctly. That's all that matters. Bleh.
